SunWise (“SunWise”, “we”, “us”) is an iOS application that helps you track UV exposure, plan safe sun sessions, and estimate vitamin D synthesis. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. SunWise is operated by Ratera Yazılım ve Bilişim A.Ş.. For anything in this policy, contact us at raterateam@gmail.com.
SunWise does not require you to create an account. We do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
| Category | Examples | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Profile you set up | Your skin tone (Monk scale), tanning goals, obstacles, and chosen location during onboarding | On your device |
| Skin-tone scans (incl. face data) | Camera frames — which may include your face — analyzed in real time to estimate your skin tone | Processed on your device only; never stored as images, never uploaded, never shared (see §6) |
| Tan-journal photos | Progress photos you choose to attach | On your device only; never uploaded, never shared (see §6) |
| Session & health data | Sun-session records, UV exposure, vitamin D estimates, time-in-daylight | On your device & Apple Health (see §4) |
| Location | Coordinates used for UV/weather and for the walk trace during a session | On your device; coordinates sent to Apple WeatherKit to fetch weather (see §5) |
| Usage & diagnostics | Screen views, feature events, device model, OS version, app version, crash logs, and a random app-instance identifier | Sent to Google Firebase (Analytics & Crashlytics) |
| Purchases | Subscription status and entitlements (e.g. whether “Pro” is active) | Handled by Apple, RevenueCat & Superwall (see §7) |
We do not collect your payment-card details. Apple processes all payments; we only receive whether a subscription is active.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
If you grant permission, SunWise:
SunWise uses your location to fetch local weather and UV data and to compute the best sun times near you. Your coordinates are sent to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve weather; Apple’s handling is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
While a vitamin D session is actively recording, SunWise records a background location trace so the map and summary reflect the route you actually walked — even with the screen off. The trace stops the moment the session ends. To protect your privacy, the start and end of the trace are cropped by roughly 150 metres so the route does not reveal your exact home or destination. Traces are stored on your device. You can disable background location in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › SunWise.
SunWise uses the camera for two things: to scan your skin tone, and, optionally, to let you attach progress photos to your tan journal. Every image involved — including any camera frame that captures your face during a skin-tone scan — is captured and processed entirely on your device.
Tan-journal photos. Progress photos you choose to attach are saved and stored on your device, inside the app, so you can look back on them later. Unlike the transient skin-tone scan frames above, these photos are kept — they stay on your device until you choose to delete them (by removing the photo or the journal entry, or by deleting the app). They are never uploaded to our servers and never shared with any third party. You can revoke camera and photo access in iOS Settings at any time.
We use the following service providers, each under their own privacy terms:
| Provider | Purpose | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | WeatherKit, HealthKit, App Store payments (StoreKit) | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Google Firebase | Analytics & Crashlytics (usage and crash diagnostics) | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management & entitlements | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Superwall | Paywall presentation & conversion analytics | superwall.com/privacy |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or SunWise.
On-device data (profile, scans, journal, session history, traces) is kept until you delete it or delete the app. Deleting SunWise removes on-device data; data written to Apple Health remains in Apple Health until you remove it there. Diagnostic and analytics data held by Firebase is retained per Google’s default retention settings. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations.
SunWise is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
We rely on Apple’s on-device security and our providers’ safeguards to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure. Our providers (Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Superwall) may process data in the United States and other countries; where required, they rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Questions or requests: raterateam@gmail.com.
